For this project, sustainability was very important. By working with Mimaki’s micro factory, I was able to print custom fabric that is in small quantities, creating less waste. This process also creates less dye in the fabric using the ink jet printers that Mimaki supplies. Mimaki uses co-solvent innovations in inks with the Greenguard Gold certification.
While creating my garments, I was careful to use sustainable methods. When making the muslins of my garments, I seam-ripped some of my older muslins that were no longer in use, and when cutting my final fabric, I cut in a way that created the least amount of waste. I also saved all my scrap fabrics to use for a future project.
For this print and the corresponding look, I researched issues associated with plastic bottle waste and was inspired by how artists have incorporated this theme into their work.
